Ready to take your jewelry collection to the next level? Whether you prefer subtle studs or statement dangles, earrings are the perfect way to express your personal style. But with so many different styles and closures, it can be hard to know which earrings are right for you. In this blog, we’ll delve into the wonderful world of earrings and tell you all about studs, hoops, hooks, and more. Find out which style will become your new favorite statement piece!
1. Stud Earrings (Plugs)
Stud earrings or ear studs are the perfect everyday earrings. These earrings are often small and subtle and consist of a decorative element that sits on the front of the earlobe and a straight pin that goes through the ear. With a butterfly clasp or a screw clasp on the back, the studs stay securely in your ear. For very small studs, it is sometimes enough to use silicone stoppers or rubber closures.
2. Creoles (Hoops)
Creoles or hoop earrings are round earrings that go completely or partially through the ear. They can vary from small and subtle to large and striking. The closure is often with a hinge or click closure.
3. Earrings (Dangles)
Earrings, also called dangles , are earrings that hang below the earlobe and often move freely. They can have different lengths and designs. In addition, they vary from hooks to studs and hinges. Almost anything is possible!
4. Chandeliers
Chandeliers carry this name because of their luxurious and often large designs. These earrings often have multiple layers and parts that resemble chandeliers. They often have studs or hooks as a closure. With these earrings you make a beautiful statement!
5. Drop Earrings
These earrings are shaped like a drop and usually hang below the earlobe. They hang on studs or hooks.
6. Huggies
Huggies are small, thick hoops that sit close to the ear. They have a hinge or snap closure.
The earrings below cannot be found in my webshop, but are certainly worth mentioning.
7. Ear cuffs
Earrings that I have not yet ventured into, but will certainly appear soon are ear cuffs . Ear cuffs are earrings that are clamped around the edge of the auricle and do not require a piercing. Perfect for anyone who does not have holes, wants something a little different or anyone who suffers from extra sensitive ears. They clamp around the ear, and therefore have no real closure.
8. Clip-ons
Another earring that is not in my collection but is definitely worth mentioning are clip-on earrings. These are earrings for people without piercings. They clip onto the earlobe without going through the ear. They stay on because of the clamp mechanism.
9. Tunnel and Plugs
These are earrings for stretched earlobes. Tunnels are hollow and plugs are solid. They often have screw caps or O-rings.
10. Barbells and Horseshoe
Mostly used for ear cartilage piercings, such as helix or tragus piercings. They have screw beads on both ends.
Are you curious about what I'm talking about when I use a "butterfly clasp"? Then read on to learn about the different types of earring clasps.
1. Butterfly closure
A small, butterfly-shaped clasp that is pressed behind the earlobe to hold the stud in place.
2. Screw closure
A closure that screws onto the threads of the plug for added security.
3. Brackets
Curved wire that goes through the ear and hangs freely. Often used for longer earrings. The hooks can have different shapes such as a kidney or fishhook shape.
4. Click closure
A mechanism where the two ends of the earring click together for a secure closure. Often used in hoop earrings and huggies.
5. Hinge
A closure that opens and closes like a door, often with a click to hold it in place.
6. Clamping mechanism
For clip-ons and ear cuffs, where the earring is clamped to the earlobe or auricle without piercing.
